The Polyvagal Theory in Practice
Incorporating the Wisdom of the Nervous System into Clinical Work Across Populations
Presented by Courtney Rolfe, LCPC
Join the many clinicians around the world who have revolutionized their clinical work by incorporating the Polyvagal Theory into their practice. The autonomic nervous system is at the heart of our lived experience. We can take our understanding of human behavior, relationships, health and wellness, and trauma to another level when we understand the influence of the autonomic nervous system in our day to day lives.
In this interactive workshop, participants will learn some of the foundational principles of the Polyvagal Theory, developed by researcher and scientist Dr. Stephen Porges. Participants will learn about neuroception, our nervous system’s internal surveillance system, and how it works to keep us safe. Participants will be taught about the nervous system’s hierarchy of adaptive survival responses, as well as the role and importance of co-regulation and connection. Not only will participants be invited to start their own journey of building a relationship with their own nervous system responses, they will walk away with concepts and tools they can bring immediately into their work with clients.
Incorporating Polyvagal-guided practices into clinical work allows clinicians to create a safe and healing environment to support growth and change, and teaches clients a new way of understanding and managing their experience in the world.
By attending this session, participants will…
Understand the fundamental principles of Polyvagal Theory
Interpret the research about stress and the nervous system
Create a plan to implement polyvagal guided interventions in clinical work across populations
